The Promised Return

Dec 31, 2017    Pastor Christian Simas    Acts 1:6-11

Personal Reflection/Study Questions:

1.This week we focus on the promise of Jesus’ second advent–his return. What are some of the things that Jesus will accomplish upon his return that he didn’t do in his first coming?

Discussion Questions:

1. The promise of Jesus’ return should bring hope and joy to Christians. What about his certain return brings you hope and joy?

2. What does it mean to us that the Gospel is more about heaven coming to us than us getting to heaven?

3. How is it different to view the Gospel not as an escape plan, but as a renewal plan?

4. Read Acts 1:6-7. What do you think about the difference between expectation and expectancy?

5. “The church is not meant to call men and women out of the world into a safe religious enclave but to call them out in order to send them back as agents of God’s kingship.” – Lesslie Newbigin
– In what ways are we excelling/stumbling at representing God’s kingship?

6. What would it look like to live more completely into the call to be God’s representatives where we live, work, and play?
